Lapidary arts

DESCRIPTION:

This introductory course covers basic concepts in lapidary arts (gem cutting, to be precise). In addition, it touches on theoretical concepts that help to understand the mechanics and formation of minerals. These concepts provide a better understanding of the activities involved in gem cutting.

This theoretical material is complemented by videos on various aspects of the lapidary artist’s work.

Principal subjects covered in theory courses:

• Earliest appearance of gems
• Rocks and minerals used in jewelery, sculpture, etc.
• Incorrect and correct nomenclature
• Synthetic stones (manufacture)
