Specialized, college-level training

CÉGEP LIMOILOU and CÉGEP VIEUX-MONTRÉAL are the two college-level institutions in Quebec designated by the ministère de l’Éducation du Québec to provide training in crafts techniques, the other being Cégep du Vieux-Montréal.

The SPECIALIZED COMPONENT of the “crafts techniques - jewelry” program covers the design, production and repair of jewelry. Through a service agreement, this major component of the program is run by the École de joaillerie de Québec, which offers students a stimulating learning environment that realistically recreates the conditions in which a practicing jewelry artist works.

The profile of self-employed jewelry artist combines the essential skills of artistic vision, technical proficiency and management abilities.

An individualized approach and small group instruction (maximum of 15 students) are offered by competent instructors who are themselves practicing jewellery artists recognized in their disciplines.

In addition to the required courses, numerous extracurricular activities, including participation in events, shows, exhibitions, competitions, visits, and others help students progressively gain practical experience and thereby, build their resumés and portfolios.

The students must assume the cost of their tool kit (approximately $1,000) and the materials used in creating the jewelry that they will make and which is theirs to keep.
